The Great Commission

The mandate given by Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20 to make disciples of all nations — the foundational mission statement of every Christian church.

Full Explanation

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) is the final and most comprehensive directive Jesus gave to His disciples before His ascension: 'Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.'

From a ministry administration perspective, the Great Commission defines the ultimate purpose of every organisational decision a church makes. Every CRM, every roster, every budget line should ultimately serve this mandate.

The Commission's three core activities: 1. Going: Active, intentional outreach beyond the comfortable 2. Making Disciples: Not just converting but forming — a long-term developmental process 3. Teaching Obedience: Doctrinal formation that produces life change, not just knowledge

Effective church administration exists in service of this commission — creating the organisational conditions in which disciples can be made and sent at maximum efficiency.

Why It Matters

All church administration must be tethered to mission. When structures exist for their own sake, they become obstacles to the Commission. When they exist to serve it, they become its greatest enablers.
